The week started with a visit from 28 Americans on a 3 month sailing trip across the Pacific. It was nice having a very busy camp with lots of beach volleyball, scuba diving and a bbq. The Brits dominated on the volleyball court but the yanks were graceful losers and provided camp with plenty of meat for the bbq which was a very welcome treat! The visit ended with all of us visiting their amazing 112ft sailing yacht with a few of us attempting to do back flips off the bow, the majority failing but to the applause of the spectators.
The rest of the week included completing my Advanced Open Water PADI course including deep, drift, PPB, Navigation and night diving. Concluding with a trip to Namena, a beautiful marine reserve. On the first dive we saw loads of white tip reef sharks and a massive Grey reef shark! An amazing experience which was awesome. I booked a shark feeding dive in Suva the very next day for when I finish my project in the hope of seeing more of these majestic creatures close up before I go home.
After a snack break of peanut butter and oreos and bananas we completed a second dive along a huge wall teaming with hundreds of fish! The most memorable was being within a meter of a Green Turtle and swimming along side it! At the end our instructor Chad told us to look down and 50meters below us we could see 3 sharks sleeping on the bottom! All in all a spectacular and unforgettable experience!
