For those on the 8- and 12-week courses, you will also complete your Advanced First Aid & oxygen provider and Rescue Diver training equipping you with crucial lifesaving skills and knowledge in how to prevent and mange problems in the water. Those on the 12-week course will achieve their professional Divemaster training as well as Nitrox and Deep 40 training.
Marine Ecology & Conservation Training
Running alongside your dive training is our comprehensive science training program where you will develop the necessary skills needed to identify key ecological components of tropical coral reef systems, and how to monitor and manage these elements. You’ll be taught survey methods and conduct vital data collection to help monitor and conserve the biodiversity and overall health of the reef and marine life it supports. All classroom and underwater sessions are conducted by highly qualified and experienced staff who specialise in marine biology/ecology and have an extensive knowledge of Koh Tao’s reefs.
Surveys & Project Work
Throughout your time in the island, you will actively participate in a variety of long-term monitoring and research projects, gathering essential data from the reefs of Koh Tao. Activities include contributing to identifying key factors associated with reef ecosystem health as well as monitoring trends in factors over time which ultimately provides vital information needed to inform effective management strategies. You will also participate in conservation initiatives, restoring the reefs of Koh Tao and the diverse and abundant marine life these reefs support, as well as getting involved with some important ecological research as you explore the complex and vital world of Crown of Thorns, Grouper and Pelagic fish.
Divemaster Training (12-weeks only)

Who is this program for?
With no prior diving or marine science experience required, this program has been built for gappers, students, early career professionals and avid divers alike! It is a perfect program for individuals looking to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of reef ecology and marine conservation, experience working on several research, monitoring and conservation projects, as well as a professional Divemaster qualification (12 weeks only). A reasonable level of fitness is required to participate and you must be able to swim 200m. The minimum age is 18 and you must also have your doctor sign our medical form confirming you are medically fit to participate.
Where will I be staying?
You will be staying in dorm rooms right above the Dive centre, where classes will be conducted daily. Accommodation is dorm-style with free Wi-Fi, AC, en-suite bathrooms & private lockers.
What type of transport will I be using?
Local taxis are used to transfer divers between the dive centre and the boat. Taxis on Koh Tao are pick up trucks with an open back seating area and no seatbelts (see example in photo gallery). We do not encourage people to hire their own transport to get around the island, and should you choose to do this (eg. motorbike or bicycles) it would be at your own risk.
What is the food like?
You will be provided with breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday at a local restaurant. Breakfast options include fruit, muesli and yogurt, breakfast pancakes, eggs and toast. For dinner you can choose anything off the menu! Lunches and weekend meals are not included so you are free to sample the many cafes and restaurants found on the island. Vegetarian and vegan diets can be catered for.
Who will be supervising me?
All classroom and underwater sessions are led by highly qualified and experienced dive staff who specialise in marine biology/ecology and have extensive knowledge of Koh Tao’s reefs. You will also have support through a local coordinator from the Dive Centre who will make sure you have the best possible experience throughout your program.
How much spending money do I need?
You will need money for extra meals, drinks & snacks, as well as for any activities not on the itinerary. We advise you to budget for £100/€120/$150 per week.
Will I have any free time?
The program runs Monday-Friday. Weekends are yours to go out and explore! There is something for everyone - kite surfing, trapeze, climbing and bouldering, paddle-boarding, Koh Tao Cinema, 18-hole crazy golf, cooking classes - and the list goes on and on!
When does this program start and end?
The program starts when you meet the Program Coordinator or their representative on Day 1 of the program at 10.30am at Koh Samui airport, or at 2.00pm at the dive center if you are making your own way to Koh Tao. The program ends on the last day at 10.00am, or at the time you checkout of the group accommodation, whichever is earlier. Transfers to Koh Samui airport will be provided for participants flying out that same day. Full details to help you book flights and plan your arrival and departure will be provided upon booking, but please contact us if you require further details beforehand.
