Learn how to protect and conserve the planet's oceans, reefs and marine life on your gap year with a Gapforce marine conservation volunteer course. Undertake marine surveys, identify issues that are threatening marine species and scuba dive.
Do I need previous experience?
Whilst full training will be provided, a good basic standard of diving is ideal prior to commencing a marine conservation course. A keen interest in marine work is also recommended.
Do I need any specific qualifications?
You do not need any formal qualifications prior to commencing a marine conservation gap year course. Upon completion of your course, you will receive internationally recognised accreditations, including:
PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water qualification
PADI Emergency First Response qualification
Conservation and Research qualification
Depending on the chosen program you will also gain additional skills and experience in:
Further PADI specialisations
Boat handling Training
Marketing, Management and Planning
As part of your course you will work closely with a marine scientist to learn to identify ocean life and also conduct coral reef surveys.
Will volunteering help me to gain work experience for marine conservation jobs?
Spending your gap year on a marine conservation course is the ideal way into the industry, or, should you choose, the perfect platform for further studies, as you will complete the course equipped with vital skills that are not part of a standard dive instructor course.
Upon completion of your chosen marine conservation course, you will gain internationally recognised PADI qualifications, standing you in good stead to begin a career in your chosen field.
Alongside careers such as marine biology and marine science, previous Gapforce marine conservation volunteers have gone on to jobs in marine conservation including leading educational tours, managing dive resorts and leading TV crews in marine environments. Whatever your career goals, we will equip you with the skills and experience you need to succeed.
You can choose the ideal course for you, depending on your specialist interests or career goals.
