  • Trek the Quilotoa Loop and explore the capital Quito

Week 1: Animal Rescue Centre

Get face-to-face and hand-to-paw with rainforest inhabitants as you volunteer at a rescue centre for wild animals. Macaws; boas; monkeys; ocelots and even caiman crocodiles are just some of the creatures the centre works to protect and rehabilitate after abuse by the black market trade in wild animals as pets. Warning: this phase of the program may contain cute fuzzy animals!

Of all the wildlife projects Gapforce supports, the animal rescue centre is possibly one of the most unique and meaningful, and you’ll be able to make a real impact on the great work being done.

Week 2: Tamandua Jungle Experience

It’s time to venture further into the jungle with a week's stay with an indigenous community. Learn the secrets of life in the rainforest - test your marksmanship with blow pipes; be cleansed in a traditional healing ceremony; try to keep up with the locals' dance routines; and dare to go on night-time walks into jaguar territory!

Week 3: Animal Rescue Centre & Baños

After your week deep in the jungle, you will head back to the animal rescue centre and take a more prominent role in the day to day running of the centre. Provide educational lessons to members of the public and help run school and college visits. You will then head off to Banos - the adventure capital of Ecuador! Get your adrenaline pumping with rafting, bike rides and a local hike.

Week 4: Quilotoa Loop & Quito

Bringing your adventure to a fitting conclusion, your final week will see you complete the most popular multi-day trek in Ecuador and something that should be on all adventurer’s bucket-list! A ring-shaped trail connecting remote villages high in the Andes, it is another chance for you to explore Ecuador’s sublime rural beauty and way of life. The final few days of your adventure will be spent in the capital Quito where you can explore the bustling markets and historic monuments. The perfect place to end your journey!

I absolutely loved this program! I was really scared going into it because I’ve never traveled alone before but I had nothing to worry about. Everyone I met was fantastic. They were down to earth, nice, and so much fun. I can not describe how beautiful Ecuador is, I’ve never been anywhere like it. My favourite part was definitely Yanacocha, I could literally stay there forever it was such an amazing experience. Banos pushes out limits as we went rafting and jumped off a bridge! I definitely recommend this trip for everyone but especially people who wanna get out of their comfort zone and meet fantastic people along the way :)))

I had a great time in Ecuador! I felt safe and supported everywhere we went thanks to the tireless efforts of our guide, Sara. This is the perfect program for someone who wants to travel but doesn’t want to go alone, or have the stress of planning it. I had no friends to come with and didn’t even know where to begin, now I’ve made friends that will last a lifetime and I loved not having to worry about where I was going, how I was getting there, or what I was doing since it was all pre-planned. Baños is a thrillseeker’s paradise with parasailing, white water rafting, bungee jumping and more, the jungle, animals, and people in Yanacocha/Tamadua made it a dream to volunteer there!
