Sample itinerary

Here’s how your school trip to India could look. Take this as a starting point and tailor it to your school (including duration, locations and activities). Check out the suggestions below for ideas and inspiration.

Day 1

Your India trip begins in Delhi

Upon arrival in Delhi, you will be met by your leader and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore New Delhi’s iconic landmarks, including Qutab Minar, Humayun’s Tomb and Gandhi Smriti. Enjoy the city’s sights en route to India Gate, the President’s Palace, and other government buildings.

Day 2

Agra – Taj Mahal

After breakfast, begin your journey to Agra, a city rich in history and home to several UNESCO sites, including the world-famous Taj Mahal. After lunch, visit this iconic landmark, admire its stunning architecture, and explore its cultural significance both in the past and in modern-day India.

Day 3

Agra Fort and back to Delhi

This morning, visit the majestic Agra Fort, a grand Mughal citadel begun by Emperor Akbar. Explore its marble halls and audience chambers where emperors shaped India’s politics. Here, Islamic-style architecture blends with practical design, featuring clever cooling systems and hidden courtyards. Afterwards, drive back to Delhi for the night.

Day 4

Flight to Dharamsala and project introduction

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Dharamsala, arriving in the afternoon. Upon landing, you’ll be taken to your hotel in Mcleod Ganj. There, you will be introduced to the project you’ll be assisting with over the next few days.

Day 5–9

Volunteering in Dharamsala

Over the next five mornings, you will volunteer with Tibetan students and monks to help develop their English skills. Afternoons will be spent on cultural activities to deepen your understanding of Tibetan culture and the exile community, including visits to the Tibet Museum, Dalai Lama’s temple, and the Norbulingka Institute.

Day 10

Amritsar – the golden temple

After saying goodbye to the staff and students at the Tibetan charity, you will be driven to Amritsar. In the afternoon, enjoy a sightseeing tour including the sacred Golden Temple, the spiritual heart of Sikhism, and visit Jallianwala Bagh, a poignant memorial to the 2,000 Indians killed by British forces in 1919.

Day 11

AMRITSAR — MARKETS

In the morning, enjoy a leisurely explore of Amritsar’s markets. Hall Bazaar is a popular spot for authentic shopping, perfect for picking up souvenirs. In the afternoon, catch a flight back to Delhi for a final farewell dinner to celebrate your journey before departing.

Day 12

Fly home from Delhi

After days packed with discovery, it’s time to journey home. As you make your way to the airport and reflect on all you’ve experienced– the challenges you embraced, the landscapes you explored, and the people you met – you’ll realise how much you’ve seen and achieved in a short time.

This trip will broaden horizons, strengthen skills, and offer a deeper connection to the world. Students return not only with memories, but with perspectives and experiences that will continue

"The first time I organised a trip through Gapforce I was struck by just how easy the whole process was and how accommodating they were. I couldn't recommend Gapforce highly enough and look forward to working with them again in the future."
