Week 1: Welcome to Africa

Your adventure starts in the Mother City – Cape Town. Meet your  leaders and the rest of your group at the airport and get ready for an action-packed week in one of the world’s most iconic destinations. Hike up to the top of Table Mountain and see a stunning panorama of the city. From Cape Town, begin your travels east towards Oudsthoorn for your first volunteer project, at a daycare centre.

Week 2: Community Volunteering

Volunteering continues as you draw on all your resources to create a positive and lasting impact on the children who attend the centre. Whether you are a practiced sportsperson, musician, linguist or artist, your involvement at the centre makes a real difference. Volunteers walk away with a  truly memorable and life changing experience. Outside of volunteering, this week is additionally about getting to know  Oudshoorn. Oudshoorn is famous for its ostriches, but it has so much more to  offer. Tour mysterious lime-stone caves, explore a crocodile farm or choose to cage-dive with sharks during your day trip to Mossel Bay. There are plenty of opportunities to get out  and adventure this week.

Week 3: The Garden Route

High on the must-see list of visitors, this picturesque location is a straight out of a backpacker’s dreams. The glorious natural beauty filled  with a range of topography, vegetation, wildlife and outdoor adventure occupies a little over 200 km along the Western Cape. Explore natural parks filled with mesmerizing  systems of lakes, rivers and wetlands. Try out your sea legs by surfing the waves in one of the most iconic surfing destinations in the world, Jeffrey’s bay, or choose to venture further in search of whales. Hike along the expansive Tsitsikamma ranges or dive straight out of the sky. This is a week jam-packed full of adrenalin, exploration and wonder!

Week 4 and 5: Big 5 Volunteering

A once in a lifetime chance to go behind the scenes and become engaged in conservation efforts at one of the largest Game Reserves in South Africa! As a volunteer, you will take part in a variety of long and short-term projects to create sustainability for years to come. Some activities include game monitoring, rehabilitation efforts and research with the Reserve’s experienced staff.

*Note that after the first week of volunteering, those booked on the 4-week program will depart home*

Week 6: Lesotho and Durban

You’ll head further East along the dramatic Wild Coast, from the mountains of Lesotho to South Africa’s third largest city, Durban. A mash-up of distinct personalities, altitudinous terrain’s and topographical extremes; this week the contrast could not be more striking. Hiking under the overhanging cliff faces of the Pitseng canyon, exploring marketplaces and streets filled with Indian decedents, trekking amongst the Drakensburg mountains to crawling across the world-famous Ha Kome caves, and spotting  wildlife from meerkats, to baboons to innumerable grazing sheep – the list of  adventures is endless!

Week 7: Swaziland to Mozambique

Swaziland is proof that big things often come in small packages. Wildlife watching, colorful traditions and aboriginal tribes, jaw-dropping  mountains and adrenaline-filled adventure - participants will sample the  high-variety of activities this little country has to offer. Then it is time to head to the coastline country of Mozambique, home to arguably Africa’s most  stunning beaches. The group will take part in a legendary snorkelling in a world-class diving destination, explore colonial architecture, pulsating nightlife and a safari drive through the African Heartlands.

Week 8: Explore the Wild

This week is all about the African wilderness. Join your group for a night of a Mozambican survival, on a deserted island. The wildlife adventure would not be complete without a visit to South Africa’s crown jewel- Krueger National Park. This is one of Africa’s largest game reserves, containing a high density of wild animals, including the Big 5: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos.  Participants finish out their journey of a lifetime in Nelspruit, amongst Jane Goodall’s legacy, her Chimpanzee Sanctuary. If Jane is in town, you might even have the opportunity to share in her  wisdom!
